Winifred Poster

My interests are in labor, technology, feminism, and transnationalism.  I’m especially interested in the way that the contemporary information economy links intangibles (identity, emotions, etc.) to tangibles (interactive service, high-tech production, etc.).  India’s outsourcing industry has been the focal point for much of my fieldwork, through which I have examined high-end software, mid-level call centers, and low-end computer manufacturing.  Recent projects explore the labors of surveillance and cybersecurity.
